5 Tips to get your Energy back while Breastfeeding⁠

There's no denying that breastfeeding can be exhausting at times. From cluster feeding to sore nipples to soldiering on through growth spurts, the whole process can leave us feeling super drained. And you might find yourself wondering if your level of fatigue is normal.

1. Cat Naps

The trick with day naps is to keep them short. Research shows a 20-minute nap is restorative and can improve mood but shouldn't leave you feeling groggy. Also, try to keep naps before 3 pm, as anything after this might interfere with your nighttime sleep.


2. Movement

A quick walk around the block, 20 burpees or an impromptu dance party with the kids are all ways you can move your body throughout the day. Anything that gets oxygen following through your body will boost your energy and mood.


3. Hydration

Not drinking enough water wreaks havoc on our energy levels. Multiple studies have drawn links between dehydration and a higher risk of anxiety. One study found that people who usually drink a lot of water felt less calm and tenser when restricting their water intake. Aim for at least 2L of water throughout the day.


4. Fresh Air

Spending a little time outside each day is super important. Not only will the increased oxygen intake give you an energy boost, but you'll also get your daily dose of vitamin D. Vitamin D is most easily produced by safely exposing our skin to sunlight. So fifteen minutes outdoors each day can make a world of difference.
